Sixth Form Life

Developing Confidence & Enpowering Independence

As senior members of our school community, we view our Sixth Form students as young professionals rather than pupils. While maintaining high expectations for academic achievement, we give students greater freedom to explore their own academic interests, develop their independence and shape their social experiences.

Through leadership opportunities and a wide range of enrichment activities, our students grow not only as scholars but also as confident, well-rounded young adults. Ultimately, life in the Sixth Form is designed to ensure that every student leaves our academy as a more confident and capable individual, ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the working world.

Enrichment Opportunities

Alongside our academic offering, we provide a programme of opportunities that are socially engaging, creatively stimulating and physically challenging, helping pupils develop the skills and confidence to prepare for university and life beyond Sixth Form.

Led by our Sixth Form Pastoral Team, Wednesday afternoons combine inspiring guest speakers with sport, teamwork and physical activity.

This autumn term, we have already welcomed speakers from Royal Holloway University, the Civil Service and Nando’s Technicians.

For sports enrichment, pupils can choose from a range of activities, including basketball and badminton in the sports hall, or enjoy a workout in our on-site gym.

Leadership Opportunities

As senior figures within our academy, Sixth Form pupils have the opportunity to apply for leadership positions in both Year 12 and Year 13.

These roles provide valuable opportunities to develop leadership, communication and organisational skills. They help strengthen our pupils CVs and gain practical experience to support their applications to university and apprenticeships.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, our Sixth Form leadership team comprises of:

Sixth Form Captain - Position Held by Rayaan

Sixth Form Vice-Captain - Position Held by Resala

Sixth Form Leaders - Positions Held By Kyron and Sayf

Student Expectations & Dress Code

Creating a collaborative environment between our Sixth Form students and staff is key to achieving lasting success. We encourage every student to conduct themselves as a young professional, reflecting the standards and expectations of a business environment.

Dress Code

We believe that wearing formal business attire helps students develop professional habits, adopt a focused approach to their studies and prepare for life beyond the academy. We therefore ask all Sixth Form students to adhere to the following dress code expectations:

Students in receipt of a bursary may use this fund to support the purchasing of any item of clothing required.

  • Blazers must be worn by at all times
  • Smart trousers or skirts
  • Shirts or blouses
  • Ties are expected for boys, but optional for girls
  • Formal jumpers & quarter zips during winter months
  • Leather style shoes
  • ID Card & Sixth Form Lanyard must always be visible

Independent Study

In the Sixth Form, students take greater responsibility for their learning, developing the independence and study habits needed to bridge the gap between secondary education and further study. At Ernest Bevin, we empower students to take ownership of their learning while providing the guidance and support they need to succeed.

Throughout the school day, a member of our pastoral or leadership team leads a supervised study session in the Sixth Form Centre, providing a dedicated space for students to focus, consolidate their knowledge and develop effective independent study habits.

Our experience in supporting students to achieve success in their A Levels and BTECs has highlighted the many benefits of these sessions. They:

  • Build accountability and independence by encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and manage their time effectively.

  • Deepen subject knowledge by providing opportunities to revisit, consolidate and extend classroom learning.

  • Prepare students for the future by developing the independent learning skills and self-discipline needed for university and further study.

  • Foster a love of learning by encouraging curiosity, confidence and a positive approach to academic development.

Pastoral Support

Ernest Bevin Academy Sixth Form provides a high level of pastoral support that students have described as essential for their personal development. Each student has a designated tutor who they see on a daily basis and we have created a system where many of the tutors are also the main or one of the teachers of the students in the group. Tutors lead registration each day and ensure students are ready for their learning and also try to encourage the students to develop their oracy and thinking skills. As well as the tutors themselves, the Sixth Form Team are also on hand to support students with anything that they are unsure about or matters of concern. Wellbeing and personal development are always a consideration with the students in the Sixth Form.
